Verse of the Day: 30 May 2026
The Word
His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.
- 2 Peter 1:3Thoughts on Today's Verse
When we feel like we are missing the pieces to the puzzle of our lives and we worry that we simply do not have what it takes to be good or happy, we can take a deep breath and know that everything we could ever need has already been placed inside our hearts by a hand that never fails. We are not empty vessels trying to find a drop of hope in a dry desert, but we are like gardens that have already been planted with every beautiful seed of life and peace.
Sometimes we wake up in the morning and we feel like we are starting the day with nothing in our pockets. We look at the big mountains of work we have to do or the hard conversations we have to have with our families and we feel very small and very weak. We might tell ourselves that we are not smart enough to solve our problems or that we are not brave enough to face our fears. It is like being a little bird that is afraid to fly because it thinks its wings are too tiny to hold it up in the big sky. But this verse tells us something that is very wonderful and very true. It says that we have already been given everything we need. It is not that we might get it someday if we work hard enough or if we are extra good. It is already ours right now because of the power of God. It is like a child who is given a backpack full of snacks and water and a map before they go on a long hike. Even if the trail gets steep and the sun gets hot, the child does not have to worry because everything for the journey is already in the bag. We have the strength to be kind and the power to be patient because those things were given to us as a gift. We are not running on our own empty tanks anymore.
The power that helps us is not a normal kind of power like a battery or an engine that eventually runs out of juice and stops working. The verse says it is His divine power, which means it comes from the same place that made the stars and the deep blue oceans. This power is like a bright light that never goes out and a well of water that never goes dry. Because this power is inside of us, we can do things that seem impossible for us to do on our own. We can find a way to smile even when we are sad, and we can find a way to be helpful even when we are tired. It is like having a secret helper who stands behind us and helps us lift heavy things that we could never move by ourselves. We see this in the little things of our daily life. When we choose to use a soft voice instead of shouting when we are angry, that is the divine power working in us. When we decide to get back up and try again after we have made a mistake, that is the strength of God pushing us forward. We are connected to a source of energy that is bigger than the whole universe. We do not have to be afraid of the dark because we carry the light of the King inside our very souls.
Knowledge is more than just knowing facts in a book or remembering someone’s name from a long time ago.
In this verse, knowing Him means being close friends with the one who called us. It is like the way you know the sound of your mother’s voice in a crowded room or the way you know exactly how your best friend likes their tea. The more we spend time talking to God and listening to His quiet whispers in our hearts, the more we realize how much we actually have. It is through this friendship that all the good things of life and godliness flow into our days. When we know how much He loves us, it becomes easier to love the people around us who are grumpy or mean. When we know how much He has forgiven us, it becomes easier to let go of the things that make us feel bitter. It is like walking into a dark room and turning on a lamp. The furniture was always there, but you can only see it and use it once the light is on. Knowing God is like turning on that lamp in our hearts. We start to see the patience and the joy and the goodness that He has already placed there for us to use. We find out that we were never poor or alone, we just needed to see the riches that were already in our hands.
The one who called us did not do it because we were perfect or because we had everything figured out already. He called us by His own glory and excellence, which means He called us because He is good, not because we are good. This takes so much pressure off our shoulders. We do not have to spend our lives trying to prove that we are worth something because the King of Glory has already said that we are precious to Him. Excellence is a word that means being the very best, and God is the very best at being kind and the very best at being a protector. Because He is excellent, the things He gives us are also excellent. He does not give us broken tools or old, worn-out hope. He gives us the very best life that a person can have. We can walk through the grocery store or sit on our porch and feel like royalty because we are dressed in His goodness. It is like a little child wearing a parent’s big coat; it might be too big for us right now, but it keeps us warm and it belongs to us because we belong to Him. We are growing into the life He has for us every single day. We are becoming more like Him as we walk down the path of our lives. We have everything we need for today, and we will have everything we need for tomorrow, too. We can rest in this truth and let our hearts be at peace. We are held, we are helped, and we are whole.
Prayer for the day.
Dear God, we come to You with our hands open because we often feel like we are missing the things we need to be happy and good. We look at our day and we see all the ways we might fail or all the ways we are not strong enough. Please help us to believe this verse today. Help us to know in our hearts that You have already given us every single thing we need for life. When we feel weak, remind us of Your divine power that is living inside of us. We want to stop searching for our worth in what other people say about us and start finding it in what You have already done for us. Thank You for not leaving us to figure out this hard life all on our own. We are so grateful that You are our provider and our constant friend.
Please help us to grow in our knowledge of You today. We want to know You better than we know anyone else. Teach us how to listen for Your voice in the middle of our busy and loud lives. When we are at work or at home with our families, give us the wisdom to use the tools of godliness You have placed in our hearts. We ask for Your help to be patient when we want to be hurried and to be kind when we want to be selfish. We know that these good things are already there because of Your excellence, so please help them to grow and show on the outside. We pray for our neighbors and our friends who feel like they are empty and have nothing left to give. Please show them that You have a backpack full of grace ready for them too. Let them feel Your glory and Your goodness touching their lives today in a way they can understand.
We thank You that we do not have to be perfect to receive Your help. We are so glad that Your power is a gift and not something we have to buy or earn with our own hard work. We surrender our worries and our feelings of not being enough to Your big and capable hands. We choose to trust that we are fully equipped for whatever happens this afternoon and this evening. Thank You for calling us into this beautiful life with You. We want to walk with our heads held high because we are Your children and we have everything we need to be okay. We give You our thanks and our love because You are the most excellent Father we could ever have. We are so happy to be Yours. We trust You with our whole lives and our whole hearts. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
