Verse of the Day: 28 May 2026
The Word
For the Lord your God goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory.
- Deuteronomy 20:4Thoughts on Today's Verse
There are moments in life, when we have to face long line of battles that never seem to end. We wake up and we have to fight against feeling sad, or we have to fight to keep our family happy, or we have to fight to make sure there is enough food on the table. Sometimes the enemy is not a person, but a feeling like fear that tells us we are not good enough or that something bad is going to happen. It is very easy to feel like we are standing all alone on a big field with a tiny wooden stick while the problems in front of us look like giants with iron swords. We might look at our lives and think that we are losing because things are so hard and we feel so weary. But this verse tells us a secret that changes everything about how we see our day. It says that the God who made the sun and the moon is the one who goes with us. He does not just stand on a hill and watch us struggle from far away. He gets down in the dirt and the grass where we are. He walks right next to us and He knows exactly how fast our hearts are beating. We are never sent into a hard day without a helper who is stronger than any giant.
The heavy lifting is being done by someone who never gets tired.
When we think about fighting, we usually think that we have to do all the work and use all our own energy to get the win. We think we have to be the smartest or the fastest or the loudest to make it through the week. But this promise tells us that God is the one who fights for us. This is a very special kind of love that is like a big brother standing up for a little sibling on the playground. When the chores are too many and the bills are too high and our bodies feel weak, we can say that this is not our battle alone. We can take a deep breath and let the Lord take the lead. It is like when a little child tries to push a heavy box and cannot move it even an inch, and then a father comes over and puts his big hands on the box and moves it easily. We are still there and we are still part of the story, but the heavy lifting is being done by someone who never gets tired. We do not have to have all the answers or all the power. We just have to stay close to the one who does. He goes before us to clear the path and He stays behind us to keep us safe from what we cannot see.
We are on the winning side because of who is walking with us.
The victory that God gives us is not always the kind of victory the world talks about. The world thinks winning means having the most money or being the most famous person in the room. But the victory of the Lord is much better and much deeper than that. It is the victory of having peace when everything is messy. It is the victory of being able to forgive someone who was mean to us. It is the victory of waking up and feeling hope even when the clouds are gray and the rain is falling. This kind of winning stays with us forever. It is like a light that stays on even when the power goes out in the rest of the neighborhood. We are given the strength to keep going and the grace to keep loving even when it is hard. We win because we do not give up on being kind. We win because we keep trusting in the middle of the dark. God gives us this victory as a gift because He loves us so much. We do not have to earn it by being perfect. We just receive it by being His children. Every time we choose to be patient or every time we choose to pray instead of worry, we are seeing the victory that He has placed inside our hearts. It is a slow and beautiful winning that changes us from the inside out until we look more like Him.
There is so much comfort in knowing that the outcome of our lives is held by someone who is good and someone who is kind. We can walk into a doctor’s office or a difficult meeting at work with our heads held high because the Lord is already there waiting for us. He has already seen the end of the story and He knows that we are going to be okay. It is like reading a book where the hero gets into a lot of trouble, but you have already peeked at the last page and you know they make it home safe and sound. Knowing the end helps us stay calm in the middle. We might have some bruises and we might have some tears, but we will not be defeated. The flames will not burn us and the water will not drown us because the one who fights for us is the master of the fire and the sea. We can be gentle and we can be quiet because we do not have to shout to be heard by the one who matters. We are protected by a King who gave everything to make sure we would be with Him. This is why we can smile even when we are tired. This is why we can sing even when we are sad. Our victory is not a "maybe" or a "hope so." Our victory is a promise written in the stars and kept by the word of a God who never lies. We are brave because He is brave for us. We are strong because He is strong in us. We are winners because He has already won the world and invited us to share in His glory and His peace forevermore.
Prayer for the day.
Lord, we come to You today because we feel like we are in the middle of a battle that we cannot win on our own. We look at the things that are hard in our lives and we feel very small and very weak. Please remind our hearts that You are walking right next to us every single step of the way. We do not want to try to be the heroes today because we know that we need You to be our champion. Help us to stop trying so hard to fix everything with our own hands. We want to put our lives and our struggles into Your hands instead. Thank You for being the one who fights for us when we are too tired to keep going. We give You our fear and we ask for Your courage to fill us up from our heads to our toes. We are so glad that we are never alone in the dark.
Please help us to see the victory that You have for us today. Sometimes we get so focused on the problem that we forget to look for the solution that You are already building. We pray for our families and our friends who are also facing big giants right now. Please show them that You are there with them too. Give them the peace that comes from knowing the King is on their side. We ask that You would quiet the voices that tell us we are going to lose or that we are not enough. We choose to believe Your word which says that we are more than winners because of Your love. We thank You for the way You protect us and the way You lead us to quiet waters. We are so thankful that Your power is made perfect in our weakness.
We surrender this day to You and we trust that You are going to give us exactly what we need to make it through. Thank You for the hope that never goes away and the grace that is always new every morning. We want to follow You closely today like a sheep follows a good shepherd. Keep us safe from the things that try to hurt our spirits. We pray that our lives would show others how good it is to have You as our God. We lift our hands to You in thanks because we know the battle is already won. We are resting in Your strength and we are hiding in Your love. Thank You for being our shield and our very best friend. We love You with all our hearts and we are so happy to belong to You.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
