Share Today's Reflection:

Verse of the Day: 27 May 2026

We are held safe in a circle that has no end.

The Word

As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds His people, both now and forevermore.

- Psalm 125:2

Thoughts on Today's Verse

When we look at the high mountains and feel small, we can remember that there is a circle of love around us that is even bigger and stronger than the oldest rock. We are never standing out in the open without a place to hide because the arms of God are wrapped around our lives like a warm blanket on a cold night.

Mountains are very big and they stay in the same place for a long, long time. When we look at a big hill or a tall mountain, we see something that does not move when the wind blows or the rain falls. It is strong and it is steady. Jerusalem is a city that has mountains all around it like a giant wall made of stone. These mountains were put there to keep the city safe from people who wanted to hurt it. In the same way, we have a wall of love around us that we cannot see with our eyes. This wall is made of the goodness of God. It is there when we wake up and it is there when we go to sleep. It is like a fence around a garden that keeps the little flowers safe from the heavy boots of the world. We can walk through our day knowing that there is something big and strong standing between us and the things that scare us. We are tucked inside a circle of peace that the world did not give and the world cannot take away. Even when we feel weak, the mountains of God stay tall and firm. We are guarded by a strength that is much greater than our own.

Sometimes we feel like we are all alone in a big, empty field...

Sometimes we feel like we are all alone in a big, empty field where anything could happen to us. We worry about our children at school or we worry about what will happen to our house if we cannot pay the bills. It feels like there is no roof over our heads and no door to lock. But this verse tells us that we are surrounded. To be surrounded means that there is no gap where the enemy can get in. It is like a mother bird spreading her wings over her tiny babies so that the cold air cannot touch them. We are inside that circle of warmth right now. When we go to the grocery store, we are surrounded. When we sit at our desks to work, we are surrounded. When we are driving in our cars or walking down the street, the love of God is like a wall of light all around us. We do not have to look over our shoulders all the time because we have a guard that never gets tired. It is a very good feeling to know that we are not the ones who have to stay awake and watch for danger. We can rest because the one who made the mountains is the one who is watching over us.

The world changes so fast and it can make us feel dizzy and lost. One day things are going well and the next day everything feels like it is falling apart and breaking into pieces. We see the news and we see people being mean to each other and it makes our hearts feel heavy and sad. We wonder if anything will ever stay the same or if everything is just going to keep changing forever. But the mountains do not change. They stay right where they are through the snow and through the sun. God is like those mountains, but He is even better because He loves us. He stays the same yesterday and today and tomorrow. His love for us does not get smaller when we make a mistake or when we forget to pray. It is a steady love that stays put. It is like a solid floor under our feet when the rest of the house is shaking in a storm. We can put our weight on Him and He will not break. We can lean our tired heads against His strength and He will hold us up. It is a wonderful thing to have a friend who is as solid as a mountain. We do not have to guess if He will be there in the morning because He has promised to stay. His circle of protection is old and it is new and it is always strong enough for us.

This protection is not just for a little while or for just one day when we are being extra good and kind. The verse says that the Lord surrounds us both now and forevermore. That is a very long time. It means that when we are old and our hair is gray, the mountains of God will still be around us. It means that when our grandchildren are grown up, they will be inside the same circle of love that we are in today. Forever is a big word that is hard for us to understand because everything we see eventually wears out or goes away. Our toys break and our clothes get too small and our cars stop running. But the wall of God around us never gets a hole in it and it never falls down. It is like a hug that never ends. It is a promise that lasts longer than the stars in the sky. We can walk into the future with a smile because we know that no matter where we go, we are still inside the circle. We could go to a different country or a different city and the mountains of His grace would still be there. We are never out of His reach and we are never beyond His care. This is the best news we could ever hear. It makes us feel brave and it makes us feel like we can handle anything that comes our way. We are the people of the mountain and we are safe forever.

Prayer for the day.

Heavenly Father, we come to You today with hearts that sometimes feel very small and very afraid of what might happen next. We look at the big problems in the world and we feel like a tiny blade of grass in a giant storm. Please help us to remember the mountains. Remind us that You are all around us like a great wall of stone that nothing can knock down. We thank You for being our hiding place when the world is too loud and too mean. We want to feel Your arms around our lives as we go about our work today. Please close every gap where fear tries to creep into our minds. We give You our worries about our families and our health because we know they are safe inside Your circle. Thank You for being so much bigger than our troubles. We trust in Your strength.

Lord, we are so glad that Your love does not change when we have a bad day or when we feel grumpy and tired. We thank You for being steady like a mountain that never moves even when the wind is blowing hard. Help us to stand firm on Your promises today. When we feel like we are slipping, please be the solid rock under our feet. We ask You to surround our homes and our hearts with Your peace that is quiet and strong. We pray for our friends who feel like they are standing all alone in the dark right now. Please show them that You are there and that You have not left them. Let them feel the warmth of Your presence surrounding them from every side. We need You to be our guard and our guide in everything we do.

We look forward to the future without being scared because we know that You will be there too. Thank You that Your protection lasts forever and ever. We are so happy that we do not have to be strong enough to protect ourselves. We surrender our lives to Your care and we rest in the knowledge that we are surrounded by Your goodness. We want to live this day with joy because we know we are safe in Your hands. Help us to be kind to others so they can see a little bit of Your love through us. We love You and we thank You for being our mountain and our shield. We give You all our thanks today and every day. We are so lucky to be Your children and to live inside Your circle of grace. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
