Thoughts on Today's Verse

Sometimes we feel lost and wonder if God is listening to us in the middle of our darkest nights. We search for answers in many places but our hearts still feel empty and quiet.

We often look for God like we look for a lost set of keys or a missing shoe. Our search is quick and we get tired if we do not find Him right away. This verse tells us that finding God is different because it is about our whole heart. It is not about looking with our eyes only. It is about wanting Him more than we want anything else in this world. Think about a child looking for a mother in a crowded store. That child does not stop until they see her face. That child cries out and looks in every corner. We must look for God with that same focus and love. When we put away our distractions like phones and busy work, we start to see Him. He is not hiding from us to be mean. He is waiting for us to really want Him. We find Him when we realize that we need Him more than air.

Seeking Him means we stop running. We often run to food or money or friends to feel better. Those things are like small toys that break easily. God is like a big, strong house that never falls down. We find peace when we stop trying to fix everything on our own. It is like a person trying to swim in a storm who finally grabs a life rope. We let go of our own strength and we hold onto Him. Our hearts become quiet when we focus on His love. We see Him in the sunrise and in the kind words of a friend. We see Him when we are honest about our pain. He meets us in the messy parts of our lives.

God wants all of us. He does not just want our Sunday mornings or our quick prayers before we eat lunch. He wants the parts of us that are sad and the parts that are happy. He wants our secrets and our big dreams for the future. When we give Him every piece of our heart, the door opens wide. It is like opening all the windows in a dark room to let the sun come inside. The light hits every corner and the cold goes away. We cannot keep some rooms locked and expect to feel His full warmth. We must invite Him into our anger and our fear. We must tell Him everything. This is how we search with our whole heart. We do not hide anything from the One who made us.

Searching for God changes how we see the world around us every single day. We start to notice how He takes care of the birds and the flowers in the garden. If He cares for a tiny sparrow, we know He cares for us much more. We stop worrying so much about tomorrow because we know He is already there. It is like a little girl holding her father's hand while walking through a dark woods. She is not afraid because she knows her father is strong and he will not let her go. We feel that same safety when we seek Him with all we have. We find that He was always close by. He was just waiting for us to turn around and look at Him. He is the best friend we could ever have. He never leaves us alone.

Finding God is the greatest treasure we can ever find in our whole lives. It is better than a chest full of gold or a huge house on a hill. Everything else in this world will grow old and break one day. Toys break and clothes get holes and even buildings fall down after a long time. But God never changes and His love never ends. When we find Him, we find a joy that stays even when we are sad. We find a strength that helps us stand up when we are tired. It is like finding a well of cold water in a hot desert. We drink and we are not thirsty anymore. We feel full and happy because we are with our Father. We are home. We are safe. We are loved forever and ever.
