Verse of the Day: 21 May 2026

We find joy in the middle of the mess because we know the mess is not the final story.

The Word

I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take courage; I have overcome the world!

- John 16:33

Thoughts on Today's Verse

The weight on our chests feels heavy when life falls apart and nothing goes as we planned. We feel like we are drowning in a sea of trouble while we search for one small piece of solid ground to stand on.

Trouble is a part of our daily walk. We see it in the broken toys of a child and in the bills we cannot pay. We feel it when our bodies are tired or when a friend says something mean. Life is not always sunshine and smiles. It is often messy and hard. Our Creator told us this would happen. We do not have to be surprised when things go wrong. We do not have to feel like we did something bad just because we are sad. Hard times come to everyone. We see the rain fall on every house. We see the wind blow against every tree. It is a promise that life will have bumps. We must accept that our path will have stones and thorns.

We find a quiet place inside us when we stop fighting the storm. This quiet place is not from us. It is a gift. It is like a warm blanket on a cold night. We can feel this rest even when the world is loud. We can feel it when people are shouting or when the news is scary. This rest comes from knowing a secret. The secret is that we are loved. We are held by hands that are stronger than the wind. We are seen by eyes that never sleep. This peace is not about the trouble going away. It is about having a calm heart while the trouble is still there. It is like a small candle that stays lit even when the wind blows very hard.

Sometimes we feel like we are losing a big race. We look at our mistakes and feel very small. We see our failures like a pile of dirty clothes that we cannot clean. But there is a victory that is already won for us. It is like a big brother who wins a game so the whole family can celebrate. We do not have to win the battle ourselves. The hard work is already finished. We can take a deep breath because the biggest enemy is already beaten. We do not have to live in fear of the end. The end is already good because of who is in charge. We are on the winning side even when we feel like we are failing. We can walk with our heads held high because our Champion is the strongest of all. He has faced the dark and come out into the light. He has faced the pain and turned it into something beautiful.

Courage is Trusting God More Than Our Eyes

Courage is not about being brave or having no fear. It is about trusting someone else more than we trust our own eyes. We see the big mountain in front of us. We see the deep water at our feet. But we look up and see a hand reaching down to us. We take that hand and move one step forward. That one step is courage. We do not need to see the whole map. We only need to see the next small bit of ground. We can be brave because we are never walking by ourselves. We are part of a big group of people who are all walking home together. We share our bread and we share our stories. We help each other up when we trip on a rock. We remind each other that the finish line is real and it is full of joy. We remember that the one who made the stars is the same one who counts our tears. We can stand tall because we are backed by the power that made the sun. We are safe because the walls of our home are built with love that never ends.

We look at the world and see so much sadness. We see hungry people and lonely hearts. We see sickness and we see goodbyes. It can make us want to hide under the covers. But we are told to take heart. This means we should fill our hearts with hope. Hope is like a seed that grows under the dirt. We cannot see it yet, but it is working. It is pushing through the dark soil to find the light. Our lives are like that seed. We might feel buried right now. We might feel like the world is pressing down on us. But the pressure is actually helping us grow. It is making us strong. It is preparing us for a beautiful garden where there are no more tears. We look forward to a day when every broken thing is fixed. We wait for the time when every heart is healed. We know this is true because the one who told us is the truth. We trust the promise because the one who made it has never failed us. We find joy in the middle of the mess because we know the mess is not the final story. Our story ends in a place of perfect light and perfect love. We are just traveling through the shadows for a little while. The shadows cannot hurt us because the light is behind them. We keep moving because the light is getting brighter every day. We sing even when our voices shake. We love even when it is hard. We give even when we have little. We do this because we know that everything we lose will be given back to us in a much better way. We are rich in hope and we are full of life because of the victory that is ours today.

Prayer for the day.

Father, we come to You with heavy hearts today. We feel the weight of the world on our shoulders. We see the trouble in our homes and in our streets. We are tired of the fighting and the fear. Please help us to remember Your words. We need to feel Your peace in our hearts right now. We want to stop worrying about tomorrow. We want to trust You with everything we have. We give You our sadness and our pain.

We thank You for winning the battle for us. We are so glad that we do not have to be the strongest ones. We are happy to be Your children. We thank You for the hope that never goes away. We thank You for the small moments of joy that You give us every day. We see Your love in the flowers and in the faces of our friends. We hear Your voice in the quiet moments of the morning. We are grateful for Your promise that You have overcome everything that scares us. Please give us the courage to keep walking forward. We want to be brave for our families and for our neighbors. We want to show Your love to everyone we meet.

We ask for Your help to keep our eyes on You. When the waves get high, let us see Your face. When the night is dark, let us see Your light. We surrender our lives to You once again. We trust You with our children and our work. We trust You with our health and our future. We know that You are good and that You love us more than we can understand. We are safe in Your hands. We are loved in Your heart. We are resting in Your victory today and every day. We love You and we praise Your name. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
