Verse of the Day: 14 May 2026
The Word
So the Lord your God will make you abound in all the work of your hands and in the fruit of your womb, the offspring of your livestock, and the produce of your land. Indeed, the Lord will again delight in your goodness, as He delighted in that of your fathers.
- Deuteronomy 30:9Thoughts on Today's Verse
Sometimes we look at our lives and all we see are empty spaces where we thought there would be big blessings. We work so hard at our jobs, we try so hard to be good parents, and we try to take care of everything around us, but it feels like the dirt is just too dry. We start to believe that maybe we have used up all our chances for a happy life. We think that God is looking at us with a sad face or that He is bored with our struggles. But this is not how our Father feels about us at all. He is the one who makes things grow even when the ground looks like it is dead. He wants to fill our hands with good things until they are overflowing. He is not just a boss who gives us a paycheck for doing a good job. He is a Father who wants to give us a party just because He loves us. He sees the work of our hands and He wants to put His own blessing on top of it so it becomes more than we ever dreamed.
Imagine a little child who tries to draw a picture for their mother. The lines are messy and the colors go outside the lines, but when the mother sees it, her face lights up with a giant smile. She does not see a messy paper; she sees the love of her child. This is how God looks at the things we do for Him and for our families. He delights in us with a heart that is full of joy. He is not looking for us to be perfect before He decides to be happy with us. He rejoices over us right now, in the middle of our mess and our trying. He wants to see us do well in our homes and in our work because our success brings Him a special kind of happiness. When we do well, He feels like a proud Father watching His children take their first steps. He is cheering for us from the sidelines of our lives. He is the one who gives us the energy to keep going when we are tired, and He is the one who opens the windows of heaven to pour out a blessing that we cannot even contain.
He promises to make us abound in everything we touch, which means He wants us to have more than enough to share with everyone else.
Abounding is a very big word that means a cup is so full that the water is spilling over the sides and onto the table. God does not want us to just barely get by or to live in fear that we will run out of what we need. He wants our lives to be so full of His goodness that we have extra peace and extra love to give to the person living next door. Think about a baker who makes so much bread that they can give a free loaf to every person who walks past the shop. That is the kind of life God is building for us. He wants our families to be healthy and our work to be strong so that we can be a light in a dark world. He takes the little bit of seed we have and He turns it into a giant field of golden grain. We do not have to be afraid of the future because the One who makes the rain and the sun is making sure our garden is taken care of. He cares about our children and He cares about the animals in our fields and He cares about the tiny seeds we plant in the dirt.
We are part of a very long story of a God who has always loved to see His people smile.
Just like He was happy to help the people who lived a long time ago, He is just as happy to help us today. He has not changed His mind about being kind. He has not grown tired of being generous to us. We can look back at our grandfathers and grandmothers and see how God brought them through the storms, and we can know that He will do the same for us. He is the same God who parted the big sea and fed the hungry people in the woods. He is still in the business of doing great things. When we choose to follow His way and listen to His voice, we walk right into a circle of His favor. It is like walking into a warm room after being out in the cold rain. Everything feels better when we know He is rejoicing over us. We can hold our heads high because we are the reason for God’s smile. We are the work of His hands that He loves the most. We are the treasure that He moved heaven and earth to keep safe.
This means we can start every new morning with a heart that is full of hope instead of a heart that is full of dread.
We do not have to wake up wondering if today will be the day everything falls apart. Instead, we can wake up and say that today is a day for God to show us His kindness. We can go to our jobs with a smile because we know God is blessing the work we do with our fingers. We can look at our children and know that God is watching over them with a love that is even bigger than our own. When we make mistakes, we can come back to Him and know that He is ready to rejoice over us again. He is a God of new beginnings and fresh starts. He loves to turn our empty baskets into baskets that are full of fruit. He loves to turn our quiet houses into houses full of laughter and singing. We are the objects of His deepest affection. Every step we take today is a step under a sky that is full of His grace. We are not just workers in a field; we are children in a home. And in this home, the Father is always looking for ways to make us happy and to show us how much we truly mean to Him. We can rest in this truth and let it fill our souls with a quiet and steady peace that never goes away.
Prayer for the day.
Dear God, we come to You today with open hands and open hearts. We thank You that You are a God who loves to give good gifts to Your children. Sometimes we feel like we are not doing enough or that we are not worthy of Your blessings. Please help us to stop listening to those quiet lies. Help us to believe that You truly delight in us and that You want to see us flourish in everything we do. We give You our work, our families, and our homes. We ask that You would put Your hand of blessing on everything we touch today. Make us grow in Your love and in Your kindness so that we can be a blessing to everyone we meet.
We thank You for the promise that You will rejoice over us just like You did for the people who came before us. It makes our hearts so happy to know that we bring You joy. We are sorry for the times we have tried to do everything on our own without asking for Your help. We want to lean on You today and trust that You are the one who makes our gardens grow. Please fill the empty places in our lives with Your goodness. We ask for Your help in our jobs and in our relationships. We want to see Your hand moving in our lives so that we can tell everyone how great You are. Thank You for being a Father who is always cheering for us and always looking for ways to show us Your mercy.
Please help us to walk in Your ways and to listen to Your soft whisper in our hearts. We want to live in a way that makes You proud. Give us a spirit of hope as we look at the future. We refuse to be afraid because we know that You are with us and that You are for us. We thank You for the peace that comes from knowing we are loved by the King of the universe. We surrender our day to You and we trust that You are working all things out for our good. We love You so much and we give You all the glory for the good things in our lives. Thank You for the joy of being Your children today and forever. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
