Psalm 97:1 Scripture Reflection

Share Today's Reflection:

Verse of the Day: 24 May 2026

When the world feels like it is spinning out of control and the news brings only heavy news, we can find a quiet place to breathe because someone greater is in charge. This message is a gentle hug for every heart that feels small and every mind that worries about what tomorrow might bring to our doorstep.

The Word

The Lord reigns, let the earth rejoice; let the distant shores be glad.

- Psalm 97:1

Thoughts on Today's Verse

We often feel like life is a big stormy sea where the waves are much taller than our little boats. We look at the dark clouds and wonder if the sun will ever come back to shine on us again. It is easy to feel scared when we see things change or when we lose something we love very much. But we must remember that God sits on a throne that never shakes or breaks. He is the King of every star in the sky and every grain of sand on the beach. When we say He reigns, we mean He is the boss of everything. He sees the birds when they land and He sees us when we cry in the night. We can be happy because the one who made the universe is the same one who holds our hands. It is like a child who feels safe during a loud thunderstorm just because their father is sitting right there in the room with them. We do not have to fix the whole world ourselves. We only need to know that our King is good and He is always watching over us.

Everything belongs to Him.

When we think about the distant shores, we think about places we have never even visited. We think about people who live far away and speak different languages. Even there, in the corners of the earth where we feel alone or forgotten, God is the King. He is the King in the busy city where cars honk and people rush. He is the King in the quiet forest where only the wind speaks. We can rejoice because His love reaches every single place. We can be glad even when we are waiting for an answer to a prayer that feels very far away. Just like the ocean touches every shore, His kindness touches every life. We are never outside of His kingdom. We are never beyond His reach.

We might wonder why we should be glad when our days feel heavy or when we are tired from working so hard to take care of our families. Joy does not mean that everything is perfect or that we have no problems at all. Joy means we know that the King is working for our good even when we cannot see the plan yet. Think about a tiny seed buried deep in the dark dirt. It looks like it is finished and gone. But the King is the one who tells the rain to fall and the sun to warm the ground. He is the one who makes the green leaf push through the soil. We are like those seeds sometimes. We feel buried by bills, or by being sick, or by feeling like we are not good enough. But because God reigns, the darkness is just the place where He is growing something beautiful in us. We can rejoice because our story does not end in the dark dirt. It ends with a beautiful garden because the King knows exactly how to take care of us. He never sleeps and He never forgets to check on us.

Sometimes we try to be the kings of our own lives. We try to control every little thing. We worry about the money in the bank. We worry about what people think of our work. We worry if our children will be okay. We try to carry the whole world on our tired shoulders. This makes us feel very heavy and very sad. But the truth is that we were never meant to carry the world. We are not the kings. When we let go and let God be the King, our shoulders feel light again. It is like a traveler who finally puts down a very heavy backpack after walking for many miles. We can finally sit down and rest. We can look at the sky and see that it is beautiful. We can look at our neighbors and smile. We can be glad because the weight is off us and on Him. He is strong enough to carry everything. He is wise enough to know the way through the woods when we are lost. He is the King who loves us so much that He gave us everything. We can trust Him with our morning and our evening. We can trust Him with our bread and our water. We can trust Him with our very last breath.

We live in a world that is very big and sometimes very scary, but the King who reigns is our friend and our father who wants us to be happy in His love. We should take a moment to look at the flowers in the park or the way the light hits the floor in our homes and remember that He made all of it for us to enjoy. He is not a King who stays far away in a cold castle. He is a King who walks beside us on the dusty road. He is a King who eats with us at our table. He is a King who knows our names and the number of hairs on our heads. This is why the earth rejoices. This is why the distant shores are glad. Even the waves of the sea clap their hands because they know who their Master is. We can join in that song today. We can sing a little song in our hearts while we wash the dishes or while we walk to the bus stop. We can say thank you because the Lord is reigning right now. He is reigning over our homes. He is reigning over our hearts. He is reigning over our future. We are safe in His kingdom. We are loved in His house. We are glad in His presence.

Prayer for the day.

Dear God, we come to You because we are tired of trying to run everything by ourselves. We look at the world and it feels so big and loud. We feel small and sometimes we feel like we are falling behind. Please help us to remember that You are the King. We want to put our worries down at Your feet today. We give You our fear about the future. We give You our sadness about the things we have lost. We want to rejoice because You are in charge and You are so good to us. We trust You with our lives and our families and our friends.

We thank You for being a King who is also a kind Father. We are glad that Your kingdom is full of love and peace. We thank You for the way You take care of the birds and the flowers and how You take care of us even more. Please fill our hearts with a joy that does not go away when things get hard. Help us to see Your hand in the little things like a warm meal or a kind word from a stranger. We surrender our plans to You because Your plans are always better than ours. We want to live today knowing that we are safe in Your hands.

Help us to be glad. Teach us to sing even when the shore feels far away. We need Your strength because we are weak. We need Your light because the world can be dark. We are so happy that You reign forever and ever. We want everyone to know how wonderful You are. Please stay close to us as we go through this day. We love You and we thank You for everything You do for us.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
